So my best friend, Crystal, sent me this site where she'd started her own blog of what my neice, Liv, had been saying so that she could recall all the wonderfully adorable things later and so that she could share them with everyone else. This made me think she FINALLY had a bright idea. The last one she had was becoming my friend, and that's been awhile so she was due! ;-)
I actually used to do the something similar, but it was the old-fashion way...you know, I used a pen and paper. When my now 11yo-son, Damien, was little I used to write in the fuzzy Elmo book funny thing he would say or do that I wanted to remember later to share with him, but he, of course, got ahold of it and used magic marker to "color mommy a picture". Luckily, with today's technology, no one can color on these pages!
So for those of you who I haven't already told this story to through my laughing, this one comes courtesy of Averie who is now 8 years old. I'd gotten off of work at 7 am (because I work nights on patrol) and gone to pick her up shortly after that from her father's house. Now Averie isn't usually observant at any hour of the day while we're in the car, but I especially wasn't expecting her to be the one to catch first glimpse of some deer drinking from a stream as we crossed a bridge. I must say, I was quite impressed when she was the first to point out the family of whitetail after having just been nudged from her bed a few minutes before. Well, Averie was proud of herself as well, and she decided to tell my husband about her triumph! She and Eddie were driving in the car the next day in the same area when she remembered, and she said "Eddie, did mommy tell you that yesterday when she picked me up I saw a baby deer, a mommy deer, and a BUFFALO?!" Eddie asked, "You saw a buffalo?" Averie said, "Yeah, a boy deer. You know the one with the horns!" Eddie just laughed and said he couldn't wait to tell me. So now whenever we're driving in primetime "deer hours" we all keep a lookout for "BUFFALO"!
That reminds me of another story from the mouth of my beautiful little Averie. Shortly before the election, Ed and I were discussing Obama and McCain when Averie began listening intently to our conversation. I could tell she was chomping at the bit to put her two cents in about something, but when it comes to Averie, you NEVER know what that girl will say. I finally looked over to her and asked what she was thinking. She, very seriously, said, "well, if I were voting I'd vote for Obama". I said, "Well, why would you vote for Obama and not McCain?" She cocked her head to one side and said, "I don't know, he's just better than that black guy." I grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her gently saying, "Obama IS the black guy, dork!" Ed and I sent her to her room and told her to watch MSNBC...
